Why Believe In God?

What are you doing when you turn on a light switch or sit in a chair? Trusting that they’ll do their job. Faith in them has become second nature. Likewise, God has given us three reasons to trust Him.

Creation: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands” (Ps. 19:1 NIV). Can you look at the heavens, a clock, or even your own body, and doubt that they required a Designer and Maker?

Jesus Christ: Can you consider Christ’s unique birth, life, death and resurrection, and explain Him apart from the God who sent Him? John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Bible: It says it’s God’s Word. The changed lives of its readers proves this. It was written “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (Jn. 20:31).

But there’s another reason to believe in God. You need Him! Without Him you’re a lost sheep that’s wandered from its Shepherd, a blind man who can’t appreciate a sunset because he’s never seen one. As a victim of sin, you’re like a person who’s been beaten and robbed. You exist, but down deep in your heart you know there must be more to life. Worst of all, you’re guilty of rebellion against your Creator. The Bible says “there is no one ... who seeks God ... no one does good, not even one” (Rom. 3:11-12).

How To Believe: You trust the chair and light switch because they work. Why not trust God too? In faith, accept the new life Jesus promises: “Whoever hears My word and believes ... has eternal life, and will not be condemned” (Jn. 5:24). You may not understand this verse but neither do you understand electricity. Why not turn on the switch marked “God” and let the glorious light of the Savior flood your soul? And do it now! We can show you how.
