The Reward Of Giving

“He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will pay back what he has given.” — Proverbs 19:17 NKJV
A father once gave his son a half dollar, telling him that he could do with it as he pleased. Later when he asked about it, the little boy said he had lent it to someone.

“Did you get good security for your loan?” inquired his father.

“Yes, I gave it to a poor beggar who looked hungry.”

“O how foolish you are. You will never get it back!”

“But Dad, I have the best security of all, for the Bible says that he who gives to the poor is lending to the Lord.”

Thinking this over, the Christian father was so pleased with his son that he gave him another half dollar.

“See!” said the little boy. “I told you that I’d get it back, but even I didn’t think it would come so soon!”

“We lose what on ourselves we spend;
We have, as treasures without end,
Whatever, Lord, to Thee we lend,
Who givest all.”
